If there is one thing which gets us excited at Laurel Hill UMC it is the way we are involved in mission and ministry and we invite you to become an active servant for the Lord along with us. There is never a month that passes when we can’t contribute, serve, help, or give aid to the holy purpose of demonstrating our love for God through loving others.
Preparing Kits for Conference is an ongoing work of grace throughout the year. You can see the complete list of supplies needed for our Mission Kits right here. Next time you’re shopping see what you can find on sale.
Each month and through special events planned throughout the year we support Eastern Henrico FISH. Eastern Henrico FISH Inc. offers short-term emergency and crisis services for paying bills and making it through the days. Services offered by this charity and that are provided include emergency food, financial assistance for bills and expenses, and clothing. Dial (804)257-7730 to get more information on this Richmond and regional church based group. Our bulletin each week lets you know the designated food items needed each month and there is a drop off box in the hallway just off the main foyer next to the elevator.
February is Heart Havens Month! That gets us excited at Laurel Hill because the members of Heart Havens are members at Laurel Hill! Our Friendship Class provides special music during our worship on the 2nd week of each month and their presence helps make our church one of the most welcoming places to worship and belong. The mission of Heart Havens coincides with our own: “to empower adults with intellectual disabilities to live and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment”. We want to empower you to live out the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the safe and nurturing environment of our fellowship.
March marks the Sunday when we raise support for the United Methodist Committee on Relief through One Great Hour of Sharing. This special offering allows all other gifts given to go %100 for disaster relief. You can help make a big difference in the lives shattered by natural disaster.
We designate one month in the spring and one month in the fall for our mission partnership with the Pediatric Emergency Room at MCV and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond. You can join friends in the community and church to collect and then share stuffed animals, DVD’s, and books with the children at the hospital. Last year alone we ministered to over 1,500 children through these expressions of love. You can even help deliver the items after they are prepped for the hospital in the spring and as December begins you can help Santa and Mrs. Claus after our fall collection deliver gifts of love to the children. It is a fun and encouraging way to serve the Lord!
Throughout the year, we also support CARITAS in many local churches by sending support teams to help prepare meals and serve those breaking cycles of addiction and poverty in our community. We also assist every 5th Tuesday with the Homeless Feeding at Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
We actively collect items throughout the year for Elf on the Shelf in southwest Virginia, Christmas Mother here in Henrico County, and other designated mission projects. We send mission teams to glean with the Society of Saint Andrew, participate locally with other churches to restore homes and help our neighbors.
Every December we raise support for United Methodist Family Services. We also have members who serve as volunteer mentors and family supporters. Also, throughout the year you can volunteer to help assemble Kits for Conference: health kits, school kits, and layette kits to aid those who face disaster and loss.
Find out how you can serve the Lord and show compassion to your neighbors all year round through the mission and ministries of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church.
