Morning Prayer 7/31/2018
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6:31)
I am visiting the members of Laurel Hill UMC now. It is a great joy to meet the people of God and to hear their witnesses of their life in God. Most of them whom I am visiting are shot-ins. They used to work diligently in their jobs and achieved a great fame and legacy. I am deeply impressed for their life journey.
In today’s text, the Lord worked hard with his disciples and gathered together to share their experience. The witnesses of disciples’ ministry were so amazing and joyful.
Now it is the time to rest. Jesus said to them “Rest.” Good rest gives new energy and fresh spirit. God gives us the Sabbath weekly after the faithful labor. And then God calls us to the eternal Sabbath after our journey of life.
I am honoring Al Walton who has been called to the eternal Sabbath last week. I am working for his memorial service now. He was a man of faithfulness and loyalty I heard. At the same time, he was a man of smile with a warm and loving heart.
Thanks be to God for his life and his Sabbath.
Lord, thank you for the time of rest in you: refreshment, recovery, relax, and retreat.
Lord, thank you for your promise of the eternal rest after this life; hope, joy, peace, healing and love.
God is good always!
